) (Before Mr C. A. Wray. E. M.) Sthat Cattle.—John Primmer was fined 5s for having allowed a horse to stray en the railway line. Maiotevaxob. — Edward Ede was charged with having left, his wife and children without adequate means of support. He pleaded not guilty. Mr Cuthbertson defended The Sergejhnt, in giving evidence, mid the man had been living with or at least paying attention to another woman, and allowing his wife and children to go without food. The wife was wholly destitute, and had been supported by the neighbours, and had finally, in consequence of her delicate and neglected condition, had been taken to the hospital. He had actually taken ; the other woman to his wife's house, and ! the Sergeant had to send her away from there. Kda bad given his wife no I money for food since early in January, aud had been diaoharged from employment because of his relations with this woman.' Mr Cuthbertson said he had no extenuation to urge of his client's conduct with the other woman, but he could not give his wife any money until he had been settled with by the contractor he was working for. The Magistrate said the case was about as bad as he had ever heard of, and a man who could not only neglect his wife in the way he had done, deny her the necessaries of life to the verge of starvation (and in her condition tool, and to crown all bring another w-ni'ninto her house, was a very bad man indeed. He would have to pay 20s a week towards his wife's support, and go to gaol for sif months with hard labor. Civil Ca^es.— p. Zander v M. Gibson, £§2.—judgment fpr plaintiff by default.
