Wkiungton, February 15. A bequest of £100 towards the New Hebrides mission was received from the executors under the will of the late Mr Cttrruth, of Kamo, Auckland, and another of £100 from Mrs Ligertwood of Sydney, wife of a former member of the Presbyterian Church in New Zealand-—the latter amount to be invested and interest ap- 1 ! plied to stipend for a teacher in ihe New , ! Hebrides .imsicn. ; ! The Treasurer's report showed all the j i funds of thi church were in credit, except. | the book of order fund, which was in a I lam nil debit balance. The funds of the chuich had lost £134 14s 3d in interest through the defalcations of a church' offttex, and £1160 of the principal had been,: wrongly paid to s >me person, and the'question of the position of the trustees and the mjrtga.rois to these moneys waß now before the bupieme Court. Several congregations had not yet paid their assessments for the Assembly expenses fund, aud there" was an increasing tendency to evade payment to the aged and iufirnc ministers' fund. Discussion on religious instruction in schools was interrupted by the afternoon adjournment. The Rev. Mr Webster moved an amendment to Rev. Mr Wood's motion that it is not expedient to re-open the religious question. Uev. Mr Patterson moved against interference with the Education Act in favor of denominationalism but in favor of the bible in schools. After a long dnbate Mr Patterson's motion was owned by 40 to 21.
