INTERPROVINCIAL.
Wellington, February 8. The Government have made a (iompassionate allowance to the widow of Mr Crawford, late Inspector of Machinery for Otago, the sum being equal to the amount of a year's salary of her late husband. The Cabinet had under consideration the question of granting a compassionate allowance,to the widow of Mr J. Blackett, late consulting engineer for the colony in London, but no decision was arrived at. Mr Ritchie, chief Inspector of Stock, leaves for the south to-morrow for the purpose oi inspecting the rabbit proof fences in North Canterbury, Marlborough, and Nelson. He will work his way overland from Christchurch to Nelßon.
