MR W. P. REEVES AT NELSON. [per press association] Nblson, February 5. Tha Hon. Mr Reeves addressed a large and representative meeting on Saturday night:. He spoke on the Government policy, and alluded to finance and the present prosperous state of the country, which, he said, had fa'sified all the predictions of the Opposition. He replied at some length to the Hon. Mr Rolleston's recent speech. Of the Midland Railway Company's claims ha said that the Government had bean loyal to the Company and to the colony. There were prospects of another- surplus, and the Government did not intend borrowing in the London market, believing that, by abstaining more money found its way to the colony. He was frequently cheered, and a motion oi thanks and confidence in the Government was carried unanimously. Colonel Pitt, the mover of the motion, said that Nek en h*d entire confidence in the Government, and the seconder added that the city was not represented at present. Another motion, thanking the Government for their action in connection with the Midland Railway Company, was carried unanimously. Mr Reeve 8 leaves for Havelock to-morrow morning.
