Glynn Petre, British Ambassador to Portugal, and Senor Gomez, Minister of Foreign Affairs, are conferring with a view to bring about an amicable settlement of the Zambesi difficulty. London, October 27 The Powers have offered their friendly offices m the Zambesi dispute. It is hoped England and Portugal will agree to define the limits of their respective spheres, the boundaries to be afterwards confirmed by the European Conference. Dubbin, December 27. Information has reached here that Mr Johnston, British agent m Zambesi Country! is annexing Cairo {sic) on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. (Beoetved Deoember2B, 1.30 p.m.) London, December 27. The " New York Herald" says that four of the ironclads of the Mediterranean squadron have been ordered to proceed to Lisbon.
