THE SEYMOUR- WALSHE OPEARA COMPANY

"THti BOHEMIAN Gl^L."

The all too brief opera season of two nigMs which is afforded to the resents of Aehburton by the visit of the Seymour- Walshe Company bids fair to be as successful as it \riil certainly prove enjoyable, the opening .performance last evening being accorded a -Very fair though not so crowded a house as anight have been anticipated. The opera chosen was Balfe's favourite and sparkling work "The Bohemian Girl," which was ■admirably staged, ar.d whic x ran with delightfal smoothness, all the parts being well filled. Miss Florence Seymour made a most charming Atline, and %ung the numbers allotted to the part with great taste and with faultless execution. She has a- soprano voice of rare quality and was enthusiastically encored for • I Dreamt that I Dwelt m Marble Halls' and *' Home Sweet Home." and Mr Walshe as Thaddeus gave a spirited interpretation of the part and was deservedly enc«red fot his 'excellent -rendition of "When Other Lips." MrJFrank Sceats as Count- Arnheim more than fulfilled public expectation, both as regards his playing and singing* giving "The Heart Bowed Down " m a manner which secured for him a re-demand, and Miss ;ISthel Mackay's interpretation of "The Gipsy Queen ' left nothing to be desired* Mr England who has an excellent bass voice, scored A decided success m the part of "Devil's Hoof," and Mr Pollard made the most of the minor part of the officer. Herr Zimmerman (violin) and Miss Crofts (pianiste) contributed not a little to the undeniable •success of the opera by their excellent accom. piEiments, and altogether a genuine treat was accorded to the public. To-nignt that favorite opera, Wallace's "Maritana," will be J)resented, and we can heartily recommend all overs of good acting and gocd music to patronise the performance, which will be the last of the season .
