FLEMINGTON GOSPEL TEMPERANCE SOCIETY AND BAND OF HOPE
The closing meeting for the year wis held on rriday evenlDg m the sobool room, and partook of tbe charaoter of a social gathering. In regard to tbe numbers present or the length and excellence of tbe programme it came np to any of its predecessors, if it did Dot em-pass them. The Btv. A. Bake, who prealded, opened the meeting. Mr J. Oaborne (secretary), aeslettd by a number of trilling helpers, made ready for abont 120 goeits, old and young, and daring an interval refreshmenti were handed ronnd. Appropriate songs, which were well rendered, were given by Mr Hj MeOonnel), Misses Ingram, West, A'. Oairccroes, and Mr Dunn, the l&tter along with Meisrs Oaborne and Taken giving a gtae. An interectisg dialogue wad given by Fanny Oeborno and Florrie Prebb'e ; another very entertaining one by Mieeer McMeiken, Holland, 6 1- wait, and Anderson, entitled " Wanted a general servant." A pathetic recitation was well given by Mis* A, Lewis, entitled "Tbe Little Piljrrlm ;" another by Miss Daisy Low, " No Half Doin's/' was both amusing and instructive, Humorous readings were given by the Chairman and Mr R. Gilmour, entitled " Mutual Improvement " and •« A Boy's Opinion of a Baly." Mr WatkiDs and the Chairman gave appropriate addresses, tbe former making a f orolble appeal to any heads of families to join the temperanoa cause If they had not already done bo, Thin wag followed by Mill A. Meharry singing "Take Away the Win© Onp." Misßea logram and West eccompaoled on the harmonium, It would be Invidious to single out any who aspisted for special commendation seeing that ail did well and were highly appreciated. The thanks of tho meeting were conveyed by the Chairman to those who had kindly contributed to theauccesi of .the evening's gathering, and a few came forward to have thfir napaes added to the roll ot m«mbere.
