It appears tbe mon named engaged an op m boa*, and accompanied by a young woman named Spaokman went for a sail. AU went well until about 730 when they were returning from Pe'one, then a sudden squall oaps'zoi the b.at which w.»a a fourteen footer with a ce tre board. The boat at this time was off a rooky point near Ngahauranga and orieß of distress were distinctly he»rd at Ngahaurant-a Kalwarra and several b ats went off and a constable wt*a ieep.tohed from tue town but no i vice was found. Later In the evening, the Pei one Navals when leaving Wellington foe Petone after being Inspected by Major General Edwards heard of the aooident and on arriving home gal lantly deolded to lauuoh their cutter and make a searsh of the harbor. Thoy left the shed at a quarter past eleven snd searched the harbor until about 12 30 a.m. when they were rewarded by finding the bo**t bottom up, with Miss Spaokman dinging to the keel. She was at onoe placed on J board the outter and all baste made for Ngahauranga, where the young lady was taken to an hotel, and although very ex* bausted soon rooovered* She rt»tis that the boat capsized about 7- SO and all three occupants managed to get ou tbe bottom of the boat, but the men soon lost their hold and disappeared. Gom Is believed io be an ex-boatswain of the steamer lonlo, and Stewart la a painter. Tbe Petone Navals deserve every oredlt for their Hfe-saving errand. The boat was reooveted at Point Halswel", this morning.
