ASHBURTON LIVE STOCK MARKET
MR D, THOMAS. Mr D. Thomas (late of Mateon, Cox and Oo.) reports upon the Live Stook Market for the Ashburton District for the week ending October 15th, as follows : — On Tuesday at tbe Ashburton Yards I held my usual weekly sale of sheep, cattle, and pigs. There was a total entry for the day of 4888 Bheep, 72 oattle, and 1 pig. Of whioh I had for sale 3520 sheep, 24 head of cat le, and 1 pig. Ihe at endanoe was not a large one, and the bidding slaoker than at the Tinwald sate. The following are She prioes realised : la fat sheep two pona of heavy weight orossbred 178 3d, good oroasbred ewes and wothers 14*, 143 3d, to 14s 9J. In storeß, merino ewes and lambs 78 6d, 7a KM to 10a 3d. No orossbred ewes and lambs brougbt forward. Crossbred hoggetß 83 lid, 93 lid, to 10a lid ; 2 and 4-tooth ewes and we 'hers m fair oondition 13a. In Oattle: Light weight fat heifers £4 8s to £4 103. In Stores : 2 year old, £1 6s ; old oowb, £1 2s 6(3, £1 7s 6d : calves, 15s. In Pigs : 1 sow, £2 10s. On Friday I hold my fortnightly sale oi sheepskins when I had a total entry of 1132 skins, whioh realised the following prioes; For best crossbred sa, 5s 6d, to 63 ; medium, 4s so 4s 6i ; light and faulty, 3a to 3a 6d ; best merino, 4a Bd, 5s 2d ; medium, 3s 6d to 4a : pelts, lOd to la 6d.
