ASHBURTON LIVE STOCK MARKET
Mr D. Thomas (late of Matson, Cox and Co.) reports upon the Live Stock Market for the Ashburton District for the week ending Septem er 24th, as follows ; — *v>n Tuesday at the Tinwald Yards I held my usual weekiy sale of sheep, catt'e, and pigj, of which I sold 1629 sheep, 2? cattle, and 4 pigs. There was a total entry :f 2600 sheep, 38 head of cattle, and 4 pigs. Ths attendance was below the average and those who did come were not bent on business, and a decided drop on all descriptions of stock took place. Several good lines of ewes and lambs with good percentage came forward which had to be sold, and the seller had t > put up with a drop of fully two shillings a head on last week's sale. The following were the prices realised : — Fat crossbred ewes ios t« us nd; crossbred ewes and wethers, ns4d to 13s iod. In store crossbred hoggets small and poor condition, 6s iod ; crossbred ewes m lamb, good condition, 9s 3d to 12s ; crossbred ewes, good percentage lambs, 95 iod to us 6d; a 6 ed cossbred ewes and lambs, 9s 2d ; merino wether*, 4s gd. In Cattle: Fit heifers, £S } store heifers. ,£3 j cows m calf, £_ 5s j dry I cows, £1 to £2 14s ; calves, 7s 61.
