FISHING REGULATIONS.
ASHBUKTON COUNTS'.
The following fishing regulations for Ashbarton Oonnty under Order In Ooanoll are published In the "GcZdtte" of (ha 19;h lnst :—
I.— L'oenses to fish foe trout and peroh In all the waters In the Oounty of Ashbufton, m the Provincial Dlstrlot of Oai>t3rbury, will be Issued nodar the hsnd of the Secretary of the Ashbnrton AcoMmatlsttlon Society, at Ashburton, and fur every luoh license the following soale of fees will be charged : For adult*, twenty shillings ; for youths under sixteen years of age, ten ■hillings, for the season ; Provided that It shall not be obligatory upon the said Seorstary to Issue a license.
2*. Every ouoh license shall entitle the person pained therein to fish for troat In any of the said waters from the (sixteenth day of September In any one year to the fifteenth d*y of April In the year follow--1 g , lnol naive, and for perch from the fifteenth day of Deoambor In any one year to the thirtieth day of Jane la the year following, lnolaslve ; bat no each Hceuse shall confer any right of entry upon the land of any person without hia consent.
3. Licenses to fish for trout and peroh In any of the watera of the oouoty of Ashburton foe a period not fxoeedlng one month from the date of Issue may, bowev r, be leaded under the hand of the Secretary of the Ashburton Aoollaiatlsatlon Soolety to persons visiting the oouaty, and for ouoh lloenao a fee of five shillings wil be oharged. 4. No person shall fiah for, take, oatoh, ci kill, or havo In his possession, or attempt to fish for, take, oat ah, or kill, In any manner whatever, any of the salmonlrro, or trouf, or peroh, except daring the above-mentioned period!.
5; Every snoh license shall entitle the person named therein to uah with one rod and line only, and with the following baits, namely : Natural or artlfioUl fly, natural or artificial minnow, ellverles, bu'lies (ffleotris gobioidts), grasshoppers, spldera, oaterpiiUrd, oraepers, and worsts, 6 No person shall xxio any other bat, or any method, devlop, or oontrlvanoe of any sort or kind whatever, for tbe purpose of fishing for, t»klng, catching, or killing tr ut or perob. except a rod and line, and a Undlng net or gaff for fish taken with rod and line.
7. Nb oross-Hne fishing, stroke-hanllng or any other unsportsmanlike devioe shall be nied for the purpose of taking, oatoh|ng, or killing trout or peroh ; nor shall any of the baits above mentioned be used with any mediaated or chemical preparation whatever.

No person shall fish without a license and every person fishing shall, on demand of any ranger, constable, or member of the Acclimatisation Sooiety, or person producing a license, prqduoa and show to such ranger, member, constable, or person his license, and the oontents of his creel or b»g, and the bait uaed by him for tabiag, oatobing, or killing trout or perob
9. Every trout under ten inohea m length, and every perch under six inches m length from nose to tip of tail, t tken or caught by any person, shall immediately be returned alive into the water from which the same is taken
10. No person shall put, throw, or plage, or allow to be put, thrown, or placed, Iti^o any of the said' waters, 'any sawdust or saw-mill refuse, or anything of any kind or description whatever poisonous, deleterious, or noxious to fish.
11. No person shall take, fish for, oatoh, or kill, m «ny manner whatever, or have ill his poasejslon, any Falmon, salmonparr, or smolti, or the ova, young, or fry of/any salmon m any stage whatever ; and any of the above -named taken by accident or otherwise shall itnmediatejy be returned to the water from whence it was £iken. 12. No person shall buy, sell, or expose, or 'oser for oale, within the district to whioh these regulation? ralate, any of the salmonidco, troat, or percb, or tike, fish for, oatoh, or kill any of the snlinonidw, trout, or perch m order to make Bale of the same, for a period of one year from tbe fifteenth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-nine.
