SPRINGBURN PRESBYTERIAN CONGREGATION
On Tuesday a me-ting of the Presbyterim congregation cf Springburn was held at the sch-jolhouse, m o r der to consider a resolution arrived at by the Presbytery on the nth, m which the Rev Mr Finlayson had been recommended to resign his charge. The meeting of the congregation was called to test the feeling of its members m regard to that resolution. Mr D S Symes was voted to the chair, and Mr Finlayson explained the position ofmatters very clearly, A number of gentlemen discussed the state of affairs, til Mr Stuart moved thr following resolution; •'That this meeting express their entire confidence m Mr Finlayson as their minister and are strongly opposed to his renrv 1 from this district. ' The resolution having been seconded, it \v.is resolved to take a ballot upon it each voter being requested to state what amount of subscription he should be willing to give towards the payment af the stipend perannnm. There were about 50 members of the congregation present, but only the voters appertaining to cipringburn were counted on this occasion. They were 34 m number, all m favor of retaining^Mr Finlayson's Ministerial services, and their promised subscriptions amounted to £23 4s. The result of the ballot was received with great applause. It was further proposed, that the Chairman of the meeting forward a copy of the above resolution to the Presbytery m time for their meeting. After Mr Fiolayson had m becoming terms thanked the Chairman and the meeting 1 for their patient and generous hearing the meeting broke up.
