NEW LINE OF CARGO STEAMERS
The Press learns from the New Zealand Shipping Company that they are m receipt of advice by cible, from their London Office, that the Duke of Westminster will be the pioner of their new line of cargo steamers, and that they will be informed of the others later on when arrangements are completed. The Duke of Westminster is a fine four-masted steel steamer of 3726 tons. 45C0 horse power, built m 1882, and belongs to the well known Eastern Steamship Company. Her dimensions are — length, 400 f t; breadth, 40.3 ; depth, 28.7. We are sure that this news will be gladly received by the numerous exporters m New Zealand, as steamer tonnage has been very scarce for some time past. We under. stand that the carrying capacity of the additional sargo boats about to be put on by the owners of the direct steamers trading to New Zealand will be equal t j about 750,000 sheep | per annum.
