ASHBURTON LIVE STOCK MARKET
MR D. THOMAS.
Mr D.Thomas (late of Mason, Cox, and Co.) reports upon the Live Stock Market for Ashburton District for the week ending Sept. 17th, as follows: —
On Tuesday at the Ashburton Yards I held my usual weekly sa c of sheep, cattle, and pigs. There was a total entry for th ; day of 3463 sheep, 27 cattle, and 11 pigs, of which I sold 1289 sheep, 1 heifer, aad 8 pigs. Tho attendance was a moderate one, and although prices improved for ewes and lambs and ewes m lamb, auctioneers had a very uphill time of it, as tbe bidding was very slo.v, and the 1 time taken up for the sale was quite out of proportion to the amount of stock sold. The following were the prices realised: — Fat merino ' ewes, 7s 2d ; merino wethers, xos 4d ; crossbred ewes, 12s 6dto 13s ; m stores crosbred hoggets, 9s to us 2d ; crossbred ewes, with good percentage ot lambs, 12s 3d, 12s 4d, to 13s ; merino ewes m lamb, 45 66, 5s gd, to 6s j crossbred two-tooth ewes and wethers, 10s 6d. Iv Cattle— Fat heifers, j£B 7s 6d. Pigs equal to late rates. On Friday I held my usual sale of sheep skins, when I had a total entry of 293, which sold as follows : — Best crossbred, 5s 3d, 5s 6d, to 6s ; medium, 4s 2d, 4s 6d, 4s iod ; small and interior, 2s 6d to 3s 3d ; best merino, 4s Sd, 4s 7d, to 5s 3d ; medium and inferior, 2s Sd, 2s 6d, to 3s 6d.
