ASHBURTON LIVE STOCK MARKET
MR D. THOMAS. Mr D. Thomas (late of Matson, Cox, & Co.) reports upon the Live Stock Market for the Ashburton District for the week ending Sept. 10th, as follows:— On Tuesday at the Tinwald Yards I held my usual weekly sale of sheep, cafle, and pigs. The total entry for the day was 2721 sheep, 24 cattle, and 2 pigs. The attendance was a very poor one, owing no doubt to farmers being occupied m repairing I damages after the very heavy gale on the 1 previous night. The weather so far has been everything that could be desired for lambing down, and large percen'ages may be looked for all over the plains, and the grass is coming on after the late rains. The following are the prices realised :— Fat crossbred wethers, 13s to 13s 6d ; merino wethers, 7s 7d to 7s 1 id; crossbred ewes, 10s 6d to los 7d In stores— ' 2-tooth crossbred wethers, 9s gd to \is 8d ; crossbred ewes m lamb, 8s 4d to 8s <)d ; merino ewes, 6s ; crossbred hoggets, 8s Bd, 9s id to 93 7d. In cattle — Fat cows, 10s to £4 7s 6d ; steers, £6 12s 6d ; heifers, ss, £4 Is 6d; calves, 9s. In Pigs— Sows, /i 17s. !
