THE DERVISH DEFEAT.
It has been ascertained that Wad £1 : Njumi, the Chief of the dervishes, who 1 fell at Toski Arabi, Upper Egypt, while leading overwhelming forces against the small army with General Grenfell, ! was shot by the treachery of one of his followers. The papers found by General "Grenfell amongst the effects of Wad El Njurai, the late leader of the Dervish party m Egypt, include important documents which prove that Wad El Njumi had taken a very prominent part m the late Mahdist movement for some years. The papers show that he was the leader of the Arab forces which destroyed the troops led by General Hicks at El Obeid m 1883, and he was at the head of the Mahdists who captured Khartoum and massacred General Gordon m 1885.
