The Christchuroh Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday, August 16th, is a< follows :— The absence of cable news from Home and Aus ralia has tend.d to restrict business, espe ially m potatoes, which have receded considerably, having m the absence of Sydney n> w> leen purchased as low as 60s for speculative purposes, although at the time of writing a few sales hive been effected at our quotations. Locally there is a good demand for p.ime Tuscan. Oats find no* favor among speculators, the chief enquiry now being for seed purposes, Barley shipments are still being made to Melbourne, but the margin to shippers must be very small) as prime is only quoted at 5s 8d m that market. Grass seed ' has a good spring demand, and stocks will be all but exhausted before the season is over. The following are present quotations :— Wheat.— -Tuscan, 3s 6d to 3s 8d ; Pearl, 333 d to 3s 4d; Hunter's, 33 3d; broken, 2s6ito 2sgd. OATS. — Milling. 2s iod; short stout feed 2s 8d to 2s o,d ; ordinary, 23 6d to 2s 7d. Barley. — Prime, 3s gd to 3s iod ; medium 3s id to 3s s<l ; feed, 2s 61 to 2s 9d. Beans, 33 3d to 3s 4d. Peas— Prussian Blurs 3s 9d 1039 JOd ; feel, 3* to 3s id, GftASS Seeds. — Ryeqrass, machine dressed, 4s 4d to 4s 6d ; farmers lines, 3s 6d to 49.
