RISING IN CRETE.

A party of Mahomedans shot an Italian soldier dead outside the town of Candia. The Italian Government has ordered a warship to proceed to Crete to demand satisfaction for the outrage. Athens, August 8. The Christian majority in the Cretan Assembly are arming against the Mahomedan party who are leading in the revolt. Greece has sent a formal note, threatening to interfere unless order is restored; the Greek fleet are ordered to be in readiness to proceed to Crete. The English Government replying to » note discourages any action being taken. Turkey declines to agree to mediation, and Hamil Pasha the Grand Vizier has made a demand to Greece, or an explanation of the note to the Powers.
