ASHBURTON SCHOOL COMMETTEE.

The monthly meqtlug of the School Committee was held last evening. Present — Moasrß W. J. Slicook (chairman), R. S Bean, £1 J. P<ial, J Potter, and Gideon Soott. A letter was rend from the Board of Education etatlng that Mr Mayna had been appointed to the headraastei-Bhlp of the school, Bnbjeot to hla Bigaing the asual oondtttons. A second letter was -cad u'ating that the Hampetead School Commlttes were anxions to rotala the services of Mr Mtyno till after the annual examination, about the seoond vreek Id Saptoraber. Tho Board had ..no obj otion provided the Aahburton Committee were agreeable*, and arrangements could be nude with Mr Knoento rencala m change of the cohool till that term. An opplloa- • lon for the use of the aohool for a maglo lantern performance was not entertained. The headmaster's report was read «s follows : —

The attend anoe at the school for the five weeks ending Augußt 10th was as folowb : —

No: on Roll; boys, 183; girls, 192; tota 1 , 375. Average attendance : boys, 143 43 ; fiirlp, 148 08 ; total, 291*56 Highest attendance : boys, 155 ; girls, 168 ; total, 323.

I forward Udual lists of those who did Qot attend twenty times last month, with the reasons for tbeir absence. It will be seen by inspecting the lists that eicknos has been very prevalent, but it is now fast disappearing, und every succeeding day shows an inoreased atlendanoe.

Mr Siloock gave notice to movo, "That the resolution giving ministers of religion permission to uno the sohool half an hoar one day m each week for the purpose of religions instruction be rescinded.
