GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

The following is the report of fthe Com Exchange for the week ending Friday, July lath :— It is pleasing to note the improvement m the English and American Wheat Markets, and being so close upon the harvest of the other end of the world we might fairly estimate that there is some cavse for such upward movement, although on this point the cable is entirely silent. Sydney has redeived another dose from 'Frisco which has. been the means of glutting the market, and we can hardly look for any improvement from that quarter for some time to come. Locally the English rise has had no effect on prices, and the week has been uneventful. Oa's continue fir as* but sales are not heavy and chiefly restricted to orders. The speculation caused by the prospect of increased import duties on cereals m Victoria has now died out. Barley has had a fair business, but prices are only maintained for extra prime malting lines, which are wanted for Melbourne ; feed is unsaleable. Grass seeds are m fair demand. Potatoes are firmly held, and prices have farther advanced under a strong outside demand. Dairy produce, m retail lines, meets a fair demand j the market is bare of prime shipping lines. Quotations are as follows ; — Wheat.— Prime Tuscan, 3s 6d to 3s 7d ; pearl, 3s4d to 3s 5d ; Hunters, 3s 2d to 3s 3dj whole chick, 2s lid to 3s; broken, 2s 6d to 2sgd. • . Oats— Milling, 2s lOd to 2s nd; short stout feed, 2s gd to 2s lod ; inferior, 2s 7d to ss Bd. Bablby — Prime malting, 3s o,d to 3s iod ; medium do, 3s to 3s 4d ; feed, 2s 8d to 2s iod. Beans, 3s 3d j peas, blue, 3s 6d to 3s 8d; feed, 3s to 38 2d. Grass Seed— Rye, machine dressed, 4s 3d to 4s 6d j farmers 1 lines, 3s 3d to 3s 9d ; cocksfoot, prime, 3d to 3%d; foggy and inferior, 2#dto2j£d. Potatoes, 65s to 67s 6d at country stations. Butter, inferior, 4d ; cheese, 3j£d to 4d. The above prices are those paid to farmers for delivery, f.0.b., sacks extra.
