ASHBURTON COUNTY HUNT CLUB.

Ihe hounds met at the Wakanui School on Saturday, June 15, when a large field of some 35 horsemen turned out, as well as a number on wheels. The ground was fearfully slippery owing to the very severe frosts on the two previous nights, and late m the afternoon the shady side of the fences was quite hard and frosty causing several spills, fortunately without any serjous results. Mi Edwin, Thomas' paddpck adjoining tlje church was successfully tried. Puss took a winding course of same two miles, and then crossed the Wakanui creek, and was lost m a thick fence of gone, After a little delay another hare was found, and gave a nice run. Some very stiff fences and several bare wires were negotiated by a £ood pioportion of the field, but puss was again lost afier a spin of 30 minute. Mr John Bonifant's property was then beaten, puss was found m the garden and driven through the plantation towards the Wakanui Road, but managed to get back again and was lost. The afternoon on the whole was very enjoyable, notwiih4<ndin E that three hares were lost after good runs, two of them when quite exhausted. The meet on Friday last at Winslow Hotel, was largely attended. Fully 40 " equestrians, and hallaviozeh vehicles containing a number of the lair se* weie to be seen on the roads. A strong hare was found on Mr Max Friedlander's property, and went through MrLovetts plantation, and then turned towards the Longceach road. Then it passed pver some nice •paddocks, and was eventually killed on Mr Lloyd's property near the hotel, af .er a run of exactly 40 minutes. Two d mble barbed wire fences and several high goise hedges had to be jumped m order to keep vr.th puss, and greatly thinned the field, but owing to puss taking a circular ccurse, n.oat of the persons 1 following were m at the death, and seamed well pleased at the way the hounds worked, and were handled by Mr Saunders.
