VICTORIA.
Melbourne, June 18. The floods still continue. The scheme of Sir John Coode, fhe Marine engineer, for opening the Gippsland Lakes at a cost of many thousand pounds was carried out m a remarkable manner during the gale. A terriffic sea broke m, scouring out the channel exactly to the depth proposed by Sir J. Coode and thus opening the lakes to navigation. The cost to the Colony of the recent Melbourne Exhibition is .£260,000. The steamer Flinders came into collision with a vessel, at the heads last night, since ascertained to be the schooner Waiterhata from New Zealand, Neither was much damaged.
