NEW SOUTH WALES. Stdnjbt, Jam 12. It is stated that the steamer Ceo* tennial which arrived yesterday from Auckland, bumped heavily four or five times during the night. The steamer was off North Cape. The bottom appeared to be sandy. The second officer was on the bridge at the time t and the passengers aroused by the shocks, game on deck m, great confer* nation. The engines were reversed, and the vessel got clear. Examination of the well showed that the steamer was not making any water, and it was, therefore decided to continue 09 the, course for Sydney. Government have approved of ft scheme for compelling school boys over twelve years of age to undergo military training, and after they leave school drafting them to the senior cadet cotDi.
