HORSE MARKET

Messrs Williams and Bland report having held their weekly sale of horses on Saturday, Bth June. There was a large attendance of farmers and others. - Tho entries oonsisted of 31 head of which 18 changed hands at satisfactory values. The demand for firstclass young heavy draughts (with trials) still continues, and we should certainly adviße all I those who have lines of this description to take advantage of the present good prices and send their horses m. We could not supply the demand. We again had the pleasure of submitting three very fine mares and one gelding, on acoount of Mrs John Nimmo, from the Taieri. The mares were the great attraction of the day, the horsey men disoussing their points very freely. They were a grand lot, averaging £34 Is 4d per head. Toe first of this lot submitted was a bay mare, " Maggie " 3 years off, sire Stanley, dam by Ivanhoe. She started at £25, and after keen compe* tition she fell to the wink of Mi John Gilmoux at £39. The next was the brown mare, . " Violet," 4 years, sire Taieri Tom, dam a Napoleon mare. She also Btarted at £25, Mr John Gilmour beooming the purchaser at £36. The bay mare, ' Gipsy," 4 years, sire Gladstone, dam an Emperor mare, fell to the bid of Mr MoGormaok at £29. A grey gelding, 5 years off, fetched £25 10s, going to Mr Cotter, of Christohuroh. On aooount of other vendors we sold— s year old marea and geldings at £22 103, £21 10s, £19 ; medium draughts, £14 15s, £13 10s; aged do,, £8, £8, £6 ; haoks, £6 to £12 ; light and weedy, £1 10a to £5, Implements.— D. P. ploughs, £8, £4 10a ; set 4-leaf harrows, £4 15s. Produce.— Derwents, 5a to 9a 6d per bag ; ohiokwheat, 8a to 8a 6d per bag ; pig's feed, 5b 6d per saok. Popi/rnx.— Fowls, la 9d to 2a per pair ; 1 pair silver pencilled Hamburgs, 6s 6d per pair ; 1 do. rooßter, 4s ; duoks, 5s per pair. Furniture at fair rates.
