The rain his ceased. The Hunter river district was inundated, and the town of West Maitland was covered with four feet of water. The residents m the lower portion of the place, took refuge m the churches and large build' ings on the high ground.

Melbourne, May 29. The floods m tne Nuamrkah district have subsided.

Immense damage has been done by the recent floods at Maitlaod, and much distress prevails at Marrickville which was inundated. Twenty thousand bags of cereals, chiefly from New Zealand and Victoria have been damaged m consequence of the flood* water entering the stores.
