LAND AND OTHER PROPERTY.

Mr T, Bullook reports the sate of the following properties, viz :— 303 aores odd near Waterton township, Longbeaoh Road Board Dlstrlot at £8 per aore ; lots 96, 97, 99, eaoh containing £-aore, township of Waterton, £10 the three; lot 0, Tinwald Town Board District, £6 ; R.S. 27672, 498 sores 1 rood 28 perohes, Hinds, at £2 12s 6d per aore ; R.S. 31086, 600 aores, Raogitaia, £2 6s per acre. To give an idea of what good land Is really worth, Mr Grigg has lately sold part of R. 8.8 15619 and 16855, fronting Longbeaoh road, about 6 or 7 miles from Ashburton at £20 per aore, and refused £18 per aore for some In tbe same locality, and a sale of a blook near Methven has been made at £7 10s per aore cash . There are numerous Inquiries for farms of all descriptions, bnt purchasers operate very cautiously whiob is very wise of them, but the faot that land is letting more readily and selling more readily is a proof that confidence is being restored, aud that land is gradually regaining the paramount position it held some years ago. I oannot fiulsh my report without referring to what has appeared m the papers lately m referenoe to the inoiesse of population. 1 heard a rem irk made tbe other day that if you advocate emigration you need not expeot tbe working man's vote- I QftU only Boy if tbe working men are opposed to assisted Imlgration of say small farmers, many are blind to their own Interest ; totally blind beoame many of those who would oome here nnder this system would, no doubt, very soon become employers of. labor and •0 relieve the market Constituencies thonld let their members know this at onoe, and further that tbey are favorable to the redaotlon of members, and stop borrowing, and with an increased population we need not fear the result, One word more re Railways, there Is no doubt that the trains as rnnning now are very inconvenient for oountry settlers, and lt shonld not be forgotten tbat farmers directly and Indireotly contribute very largely to the revenue and their Interests I shonld be studied.
