Breach of Beer Duty Aot.

New Pmmouih, May 27. Jameß McLnuohlan was obarged this morning m the R, M. Oourt, with having two bales of hops In his possession whioh had not baen entered m his books In accordance with the requirements of the Beer Duty Act The < ffiotal lv oharge of the Ous oms stated that bo visited defendant's brewery at Waltara on May 7 r -b, and found two bales of hops whioh defendant's son-in-law admitted bad been reoeived during May, but bad not been entered. In the brewery oase the oharge re hops was dismissed as the Magistrate said that the defendant bad proved to his satisfaction tbat their non entry m tbe books Wis not due to fraudulent intention, A. second oharge against MoLacohlan for not entering some beer m bin books on May 7th was postponed for tbe produotion of witnesses. The bearing of a third obarge fcr not keeping Brewer's books on tbe premises is now going 00. An Acoident> Wellington, May 27. A rumour was widely spread about on Friday to the tfieot that the Governor had been thrown from his horse and badly hurt, but on enquiry at Government House tbe answer was returned that there was no troth m the report. It now appears that it was Mr Garland tutor to Lord Oranley, who met with the aooident. His horse shied and threw htm on the Karorl road, breaking bis collar bone and severely Injuring hia shoulder. Another Gun Accident. rBILDiKO, May 27. A young man, named Orook, and two others, named Porter and Maoalister, wore out shooting yesterday. Orook got a matoh from Maoalister to light his pipe, and whilst lighting It leaned the muzs c of the gun against his body. The gun went off and shot Orook dead. Schooner Ashore. Ltveboa&gill May 27. The schooner J£. M. Cameron from Lyttlecon for tbe Bluff, missed stays and went on to the rook* at Tewalo Point at 8.30 this morning. Aa she Is making water the crew have gone ashore. An attempt will be made this afternoon to tow her off at bleb tide.
