Mr A. J . Oilman, the newly appointed schoolmaster hia oommeneed his duties here. He brings with him reports proving great teaching power. A purse of sovereigns was presented to him on leaving Kalspol Island by ihe residents of that distriot where he has labored for nine years. There is good saope for an earnest painstaking teacher In this locality. On Friday evening last Messrs H T. Chapman (late Ohairman), and H. Kolght (late Treasurer), waited on the new Committee asking for some explanation es to an alleged dUorepancy m the acoounts for the past year. — MrM. Fagan confessed to having said something of the kind to Mr A. M. Smith (Treasurer) on tbe night of Mr Purves' Scotch oonoert, and the remark it appears had been overheard by that gentleman. But, on a farther examine tion of tbe books, he found no such discrepancy existed, and he was sorry he had 1 aid so. — Mr Chapman said it was strange he did not take the trouble to find ont the truth before making such a statem nt, and tbe apology should be made as publicly as the accusation. Mr Knight said that any fault of the late Chairman m tbe matter of the School accounts must be shared equally by himself as Treasurer, As the present Ohairman had acknowledged his mistake m making such au accusation, nothing more could be said ia tbe matter. They then withdrew. The Committee accepted Mr Oilman's tender for oleaning the sohool for the ensuing twelve months.

The Mount Scmers Road Board election took place on Monday, May 6th. The following is the result : — T. Harrison 41, W. T. Chapman 38, A. MoFarlane 38, W. O. Walker 34, A. E. Peacbe S3 W Edson, 31, P. Tisoh 30, T. Fagan 11 . The first five were therefore declared duly elected. A splended meteor fell the same evening from near the zenith to the horizon m the direction of Mount Wioterslow, illuminating every object for miles round. The time of the occurrence was 8 25.
