MR PARNELL IN THE BvX.

Before the Commission to-day, Mr Parnell, under examination by Mr Aequith, stated that his attention had first been called to politics by the passing of the Ballot Act, which made it possible for Ireland to have to gome extent an independent Parliament, and enabled the tenants to meet the landlords' ooeroion. He described the formation of Butt's league. He oame to an unsatisfactory conclusion in regard to the proceedings of Butt's party. He denied that he was ever a member of any secret society with the exception of the Foreßters. Egan never invited him to join the Fenian Brotherhood. There was a political object as well as » social one in the land movement, but he had cautioned the founders that they would be held responsible for the foolish actions of the branches.
