SAMOAN AFFAIRS.

.Sydney, April 24 Information received from Apia states that Captain Erhardt expresses a doubt as to his being able to float the American flagship Trenton, although he has received advice that the necessary plant will soon arrive from America. The Trenton is believed to be full of holes, but it is expected she might be floated off. The Olga, which arrived yesterday is not very much damaged. The Nipsic, which was the first of the American vessels to go ashore, was very much knocked about, but it is thought that ber engines, which remain intact, will be saved.

Fritz, the Corvet'es Captain and Commandant of the German -warship Adler says that the adherents of Mataafa only assisted the Americans during the early part of the day, but m the afternoon no distinction was shown and both Americans and Germans were trealed alike.

Berlin, April 13. It is believed that an amicable settlement of the Samoan difficulty will result from the conference between the American and German delegates.

Wblxucgtoic, April 13. The Mayor has replied to the proposition from Anokland that steps be taken to furnish aasistanoe to the Samoans, In view of the likelihood of scarcity of food, that It Is better to wait till it is aotually known whether diatreaa exiata. The Council endorsed this view.
