SILVER AND TIN AT STEWART'S ISLAND

Mr James Thomeon, of Half-moon Bay, Stewart's Island, one of the original prospectors of the Pegasus tin field, while eu. gaged cutting the Government track from Half-moon Bay to Pegasus, found at Faterion's Inlet, about eight miles from the mouth, an outcrop of qu-rtz containing galena. Mr Thompson took out some ■mall specimens whioh he forwarded to Mr MAdam, assayer for the Bank of New Zealand, at Danedin, who tasted them and found they contained stiver at tha rate of aUoz per ton. This prospect is barely payable, but further development of the ore may prove it to be of rioher quality. Sine olalma have been taken up along the line of the s apposed reef, and steps are being taken tc farther test the discovery. Mr Thomsoncomiders there Is not sufficient grounds «t present for a positive opinion to be formed aa to the value of the discovery. In regard to tbe tin discoveries, Mr Thomson haa been familiar from the first with the prospectors' claim and •peaks m terms of great confidence m to Hi fnture development and yalue. He iayi that the prospectors' stream tin claim will be much more easily developed than the lode claim, although tbe latter will probably be taken shortly by a separate oompany. Mr Thomson states the wash In certain terraces m ths pro■peotors' claim baa been pioved to a depth of 20ft to 24ft. and that gold ls present with the tin. It is estimated that about £300 will put the prospectors' stream tin daim m thorough working.—" Otago Dally Times."
