Dkab Sib,— Wbeu I saw wbat alterations m the train servioe were proposed 1 folt sure that so far as could be made ont from tha newspaper tbey would not suit Ashburton people generally, and appeared to be entirely framed to suit the very limited number who travel through. I therefore communicated with tho Chief Oommiasioner and reoelved the encloasd wire. What iteps would you propose ? A publio meeting would be best perhaps. Your Oounoll might be able to take it up at onoe, but the Oounty Oounoll won't meet till the first week m May. Please let me know what yon think best to be done. Yours Fdlthfullly, W. O. Walker. As will be seen by announcement m another o.lumn the Mayor has, at the request of a number of burgesses, convened a public meeting for Tuesday evening at 8 o'olock ln the Borough Chambers for the purpose of taking steps m the muter. There should be a large attendance.
