James MoCrenor, Thomas Matbieaon and Thomas Charters, were charged with having aasanlted Constable Bomk of MethveD, with having obstructed him m the execution of his duty, with having assaulted R« Patton vhtlat assisting tht poloe, with having assaulted W. McDonald, with having broken fnrnitare, und with being drunk at Methven on March 21it and 22nd. — Mr Martin, Crown Prosecutor, appeared In support of the Informations, and Mr Cuthbertson ap« peared for defendants. — Mr Oatfabertson asked for an adjournment to Ashbarton for a week, as Mr Wilding who was to have defended was too ill to appear. — Mr Martin objeoted os all the witnesses were present, and he oould not leave Obristoharch next week — There were informations laid by MoCrenor and Mathieson against Oonatable Bourk for assault — All the oaseß were taken together, and a large number of witnesses examined, the evidence being somewhat contradictory. The Bench dismissed the charges against Constable Boark, also the one against Charters. — McOrenor and MathUion were fined £8 eaoh, and oosts amoauth'g to £2 10] 6d for resisting the police, assaulting R. Patton and being drank. The other informations wore dismissed.
