A NEW BUTTER FOR REAPERS AND BINDERS.

Mr G. Aston, of Newlands, has invented and patented a new butter for reapers and binders. He used it through last season, and it gave the utmost satisfaction, and seems destined to come into general use. Mr Aaton had his device attaohed to a Hornsby machine, but it is applicable to any make of reaper and binder. The butter oanvaa and roller* are disoarded, and a very light overhead packer or butter substituted. This is m the shape of a fork fixed above the binding table, and attaohed to a crank. The fork has a tail projecting above the orank pin, and to the end of this tail is a connecting rod, pivotted at the front above the oanvaß rollers. The crank derives its motion from one of the top rollers by means of a sprooket and chain, and as the orank spindle revolves it imparts a reciprocating motion to the fork. As the grain is elevated over the rollers the constant motion of the fork packs the butts squarely and steadily down to the binder and a perfeotly neat sheaf is ensured, with a total absenoe of loose straw. The new butter brings every straw squarely and regularly down the table to the binder, and obviates the liability of the grain shedding by the heads being foroed aoross the table. A praotioal test of the ingenious little contrivanoe, m the Bhape of a season's working has proved its utility, and it has already reoeived favorable mention from several sources.
