The case of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Oompany v the Government of New Zealand, £110, compensation for seven rcoda three perches taken for the purpose of a railway station at Morrineville, was oonoluded at Hamilton to day, when a verdict was given for plaintiffs for £90, with costs £12.

Hokitika, March 14
A fatal accident occurred at Goldsborough tbis morning. Tbe wife of E J ward McOormick, minor, went into a shed to milk a ow. The children discovered her a few minutes afterwards and saw her m a sitting position motionless. Tbey gave an alarm, and It was found she was quite dead, having apparently been k eked on the temple by the cow.

At the Police Oourt to-day three youths were fined £1 13s each ia all, or three day's imprisonment, for setting fire to grass and flax. The information was laid under the Police Ofleno s Aot instead of the Malicious Ininry to Property not. where there is no alternative to imprison - ment, the prosecutor not wishing tj be severe, but to warn others. The youths were out rabbit shooting nnd use fire to drive rabbits out of the fl <x. Complainant, had a few weeks before, had his house and everything m it burnt down from a similar cause.
