Some 700 hybrids were liberated m the Waitaki.

At tbe same meeting the manager reported that when the pond m whioh the whltefish were plaoed waa emptied, only onn solitary specimen remained, measuring llfin long by 3ln deep. Though the gre-test oare was taken the fish slokened and died. There are a few m another pond, but tbey are small. It Is hoped, however, those plaoed m Lake Wakatlpo have thriven. An showing the destruction o%usid by eels, the manager caught a number and opened them. The first contained a salmon par about 6ln long, f rush and In good oondition * another had a trout exaoiiy 10. v long, and the remains of two or three smaller fi*h apparently from 3ln to s in ; and a 'third bad also, besides a crayfish, the remains of several small fish.
