The market during tho week baa been considerably exeroieed by repeated cables from Australia with regard to the harvest statistics ln that country. On the publication of tbe New South Wales returns at the olose of last week wheat made a sudden jump of 2d to 31 a bnahe l , and the later advioes from Vlotorla and South Australia bu tended to harden the rise. Tbe freight competition has also helped matters here m the growers Interests. The Home markets, however, do not show any material alteration, but as considerable freight arrangements bave already been entered Into we shall expect to tee a good deal of grain go forward to the United Kingdom. Locally, oar farmers' prospeot, are most enoouraging, and prloes must be In their favor for some time to oome. At tbe nme time we cannot but reiterate oor previous opinions that eventually Mark Lane will rule our local values more especially If fwices are now foroed to suoh values as will •How California to enter Into oompetUlon m tbe Australian markets. The prices at whioh Amerioan wheat om be landed at Sydney is jnst now a debatable point. Oats have firmed, but as yet no great quantity are being offered. Barley Is easier, shippers being unable to give equal sates with malsters and brewers ; obolee Uses are likely to maintain thetr values, but second quality will see lower rates. Beans aod psas are offering ln very small quantities. Cocksfoot has been sold fn considerable lines but prloes are low. We quote : Whjat— Prime Tuaean, 3s 9d to 3s lOd, Hooter's and pearl 3s 6d to 3s Bd. Oat_— M'lllog 3a 6d, short feed 2s 4d jto Ss 64, Inferior 2s 2d to 2s 3d.
