HIS EXCELLENCY'S SPEECH,
(pbr pbbss Asaoounoir.) : "'"\ Sydney, February 28. ' Parliament, was opened this after* noon. His Excellency, m his Speech from the Throne, said although there were signs of the revenue improving, It was not safe to predict that it would realise the estimate. It was not intended to submit proposals for fresh taxation this- Session. Parliament would be asked to sanction the construction of important public works, which would be the means of absorbing some of the surplus labor. in the colony. Measures would be introduced providing for the adjustment and gradual extinction .0/ the accumulated .deficit. In conse* quence of the distress occasioned tiy the continued drought, it was intende4 to ask for power to relieve farmers by allowing the payment of rents on hold*ings to be deferred. In the House of Assembly this evening Sir Henry Parkes moved an amendment to the address m reply wbicb Government* have accepted as a Wink of confidence motion. J In the Legislative Council the Hon. Geo. Henry Cox has moved an amendment to the address m reply, denounce ing the action of the Government m the recent nominations to the Legislative Council. Both motions tre, under discussion this evening.
