ELEOTION OF PRIMATE.

Dunbdin, February 26.

At the Anglican General Synod the Rev. Mr Fitohett moved that the customary fees for marriage licenses be dispensed with. He laid that statistics obtained from the Registrar-General showed that for 1887 there were 3665 marriages for the colony, of which 2737 were solemnized by ministers and 828 by Registrars. Though the Ohnroh of £< gland population was 229,757, and the Presbyterian 130.000, yet the Presbyterian ministers soiemnlzad 873 marriages to 770 by the Oho rob of England, The motion was negatived after disonsslon. There was no nomination, and no speaking except to the question, shall the vote be now taken 1 After half-an*hour occupied m voting, the scrutineers reported no eleotion. After discussion, the Synod resolved to disclose the names and numbers. It appeared that the voting was as follows : — Bishop of Kelson : Bishops, 3 ; clergy, 5 ; laity 12. Bishop of Wellington : Bishops, 3 ; olergy 11 ; laity, 5. Bishop of Auokland : Bishop, 1; olergy, 3 ; laity, 6. Bishop of Duuedin : Clergy, 1.

Tbe voting was again taken, the result being : -—Wellington : Bishops 5 ; olergy, 13 ; lafty, 9. Nelson : Bishops, 2 ; clergy, 6; laity, 13. Auckland: Clergy, 1; laity, 1.
