Wbilingtom, February 24. All W, Best, who held the appointment of oashlet m the Paymaster -Genersl's Department until 1887, died this morning, aged seventy. A oable reoelved yesterday announced the death of Mr Edward Shaw, solicitor, at Hawthorne, near Melbourne. Deceased was at one time R.M. of Wellington dlsr trlot, and formerly represented the oonstltqenpy of {nangahna In Parliament, Gbbtmidih, February 24. Last night David Fullerton had his left hand maimed by a looomotlve. He «ss lying on the line. The evening was dark, and the driver cqqld not see him In time to stop the engine to prevent the acoldent. Tbe oow-oatpher threw the man on one side, cutting his head rather severely. The wheel went over his hand.
Last evening a young lad was caught by the train at Brunnertop, and one leg was orusbed, amputation being neoeesary.
