Sylvester Denny Egen, an engineer, has obtained a certificate of protection from the Patent Office for an Invention deiorlbed as '* Egen's motor power," whloh apptars to be an Ingenious multiplication of •peed. The chief nee of this Invention will be applied probably to beats, small lannohea, eta, where It may be utilised as A medlam motif c power between ordinary oara atd steam. The Inventor claims that the Invention will completely revolutloniie the present use of steam-power m •mall boats. It will be especially useful if applied to torpedo launches, etc , and to general use In naval defences, being noiseless, always ready for Immediate use, and not likely to be detected by an enemy at night, etc One man can work the machinery, whloh the Inventor states oan be made to drive craft of any size, and be worked by either band or steam. The machinery, now fixed In a email two-ton boat wi>h an ordinary propeller, whloh attains a revolution of 450 per mlnote, Is •attmated to give a speed of eighteen knots. Bis Exoellency theG over nor, and Captain Kane, of H. M.S. Calliope, have expressed a high opinion of tbe Invention. Admiral Fairfax has promised to Inspeot It to-morrow, and If he lssatlified of Its utility a. model will be sent to the Ad- { ■jlialty. •
