SOUTH RAKAIA SCHOOL COMMITTEE
At the usual monthly meeting there were present ; Messrs Pyke (chairman), Broad bent, Makeig, Dowling, Olark and Turner. An apology was received from Mr Oxley for unavoidable absence. The master reported the striot average as 155 ; highest attondanoa 168, and toe number on roll 214 He also pointed out that additional desks and forms were required for the infants' room. A communication wus received from the Board relative to the Inspector's report stating that they were fissured by the Inspector th> it there was an improvement, but maoh better results might be looked for from so large end important a school.— Mr Oxley wrote on the mm© subject, and to the effeot that having seen the Board's so-called reply he would not proceed further with his motion. The Chairman leported having had the two broken windows replaced, and the matter was now m the bands of the police. The Board intimated that Miss R. Bruce had passed her examination, and that Masters Larraman and Bruce had failed. — It was resolved that the head mautcr ho not fied of tbia, and that a copy of the Board's letttr re examinution be sent him. The Chairman stated that Mies Bruce had severed her connexion with the nohool, and that Mies Bilton, the assistant mistress, commenced her duties on the 30th, —It was unanimously resolved that the Chairman should write to Miss Bruoo expressing the entire satisfaction .she had given aa a toaoher m the school during the past five y6ars. A circulai was reed relative to the future expenditure on incidentals. Another supplied the names of those nominated to taks cffico on the Board, and it was resolved to support the following : Messrs Westenra, Sauoders, and Gordon. Jt was resolved to request Mesdames Bruce and Turner to judga the children's sewing. Ihe Chairman reported a credit balance of £8 6a 6d, also that the amount of £1 13s 6d bad been expended m orioketiog materials for tho boys and rackets for the girls ; £3 16b had been expended fox prizes, and m oonsequence of the shortness of funds the Committee could not see their way to give the ohildren a treat The repairs to the school were not commenced, and the Chairman was requested to urge the Board to proceed with the new window m the infants' room without delay. Messrs Brpadbept and Dowling were appointed a visiting committee for the month, and were requested to see to the small requirements asked for by the master. Acoounts for £1 14s 6d were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned .
