The body of John Bell was fonnd m the Hokowhitu Lagoon, near here, this evening Deceased was missed yesterday, and mnst have been upset m his canoe while crossing the lagoon. Oamaru, February 7. A meeting of those desirous of eubscribing to tho Parnell Defence Fund was held here to-night. There w as a large attendance, and after the meeting had been addressed by various speakers, close on £17 was subscribed m the room. It is expeoted that about £40 will be collected. Dumbdin, February 7. A ease exciting some interest was heard at the Police Court to-day, when a respectable young man, L. 0. Haqlett, was charged with indecent exposure. On some occasions when the St Clair baths are full there is no room for dressing m the sheds, and many people are m the habit of doing so on the rooks close by . A road runs past, about two chains above, which commands a view of the baths and rocks, and this is largely used by women and children. Toung Hazlett had dresßed on the rooks, and two policemen gave evidence that he bad unnecessarily exposed himself. A number of witnesses were o died for the defenco to oontradiot tbis evidence. The Bench dismissed the case, j At a meeting of the Dock Trust a letter was received from M* W. Elder, covering one from M. E. Billing and Co., loan agents, of London, indicating that they had little hope of being successful m the libel aotion against the v Standard '' and tbe Hon R. Campbell m oonneotion with comments on the eve of floating the loan. It was hinted that the letter had not beon written by Mr Campbell, but evidently forwarded from the oolony. The Trust decided to take no steps m the matter.
