■ — ♦_ The ordinary monthly meeting of the Ash. burton Borough Gounoil was held last night Present :— Ore H. Friedlander, J. Keir, D. MoFarlane, T. Scaly, J. Tucker, and B. Bird. Apologies were received for the absence of the Mayor, and Ora Soott and it. Friedlander. Or Friedlander wbb voted to the ohair. chaibmah's statement. The Chairman said that the debit balanoo at the Bank was £1574 7b 7d. The amounts which had been received since last meeting were:— Rates, £2 4s; rents of reserves, £5 17s 3d; water supply, £44 8a; license, bawker'e, £1; soil, £6; library account, Bb. Total, £59 12s 3d. CORRESPONDENCE. A ciroular waß received from the Minister of Public Works with reference to content plated abolition of the Publio Works Depart, menti RESERVES COMMITTEE, The Beserves Committee reported with respect to the property originally leased to Messrs Andrewes, that the application for a Glasgow lease be granted, subjeot to the conditions made m the case of Mr J. Tasker and others, bat that the sum of £150 be the amount to be .paid to the Council m confederation of their foregoing their olaim to improvements. In respect to the application for reduction of rent of reseive leased to Mr B. Lancaster it was reoommended that the rent stand on the old footing on conditions similar to those granted to other tenants, The report was adopted. FIBE BRIGADE. The Fire Brigade Committed reoommended that the Gounoil give the sum of £1 towards the purchase of a flag for the Brigade, The report was adopted. ENaiNEKBS 1 . BEPORT, The Engineers reported that the oontrac tor had completed the re-facing of the pavement m East street from Peter street to Moore street. They wished the direction of the Counoil as to whether the facing Bhould be extended down East street prior to the side streets. The report was adopted, and it was deoided that the matter of the continuation of the faoing of the pavements be left m the hands of the Chairman of the Works Committee and the Eogineer. VALUATION. The Chairman stated that the Valuator, Mr Home, had compiled the valuation. This was about £1000 lower than that for tho previous year. TENDERS. The tender of J. Oraigie for painting fence round Baring Square at £5 16s was accepted; PAYMENTS. Aooounts amounting to £44 3s lid were passed for payment and the Counoil adjourned*
