The import of Australian larab exhibits an increase for 1888 of 21 per cent over that for 1887, and New Zea. land of 19 per cent. In mutton there is a general increase of 73 per cent At Smithfield, beef is averaging top prices. Australian mutton 4^d and New Zealand 4}£d per lb. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have received the following cablegram, dated January ißih : — Tallow — There is little demand. Good mutton tallow is worth 25s 6d per cwt For good beef the quotations are unchanged.
