THE NEW SOUTH WALES CRISIS.

A FREETRADE CAUCUS. WANT OF CONFIDENCE MOTION. [Pub Pbbss Association J Sydinby, January 16. A caucus of the freetrade party was held this afternoon, when a -resolution was carried to the effect that as the freetraders possessed a solid majority m the House it would be a waste of time to permit the new Ministry formed by Mr G. R. Dibbs to take office, to be afterwards turned out. In the House this evening, on the motion to go into Committee of Supply t Mr McMillan moved an amendment m the shape of an address to the Governor, to the effect that the House resolves to refuse supply unless , cause can be shown why a Ministry representing the minority should be allowed to hold office. The amend* ment is tantamount to a direct want of confidence motion. Sir Henry Parkes, m speaking to the amendment, made a bitter onslaught on his former followers, whom he accused of deserting the Government without the slightest cause. He contended that the new Government had come into power quite constitutionally, and were entitled to fair treatment at the hands of the House. Later on m the evening a' scene occurred between Mr McElhone and the ex-AttorneyGeneral, Mr Wise. The former indulged m gross personalities agaiDst the latter. Eventually Mr Wise threatened to horsewhip the \ offender.
