THE VICTORIAN LOAN.
■ (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) London, January 16. The "Standard," m the course of an article on the prospects of the new Victorian loan, says the Victorian debt is very moderate compared with the public debt of other colonies, and proceeds to show that the present time is very opportune for placing the loan on the London market, as the credit of the colony has not been subjected to any severe strain. The successive land booms m Victoria have m a small and venturous way been an imitation of the land speculations which occurred io the Argentine Republic, and cash is now required m abundance to enable Victorian financial bodies to come easily through their trouble.
