Not very long ago a poundkeeper within 20 miles of lnveroargill took possession of a Btray cow and placed her m durance. He then went through the usual formula; advertised, etc., with an empbatipbstoript to the effect that if not claimed, etc., crummie would be sold This notice had appeared for a couple of days when tbe poundkeeper began to get anxious about the continued absence of his houaeholdV cow, and, on going to feed his prisoner, discovered that he had been pUiDg up expenses- against himself, for lo ! it was hia own beast he bai impounded. This is true, for the man, m wri iag to stop the advertisement, with dariog simplicity let the oat out of the bag and asked tbat the account should be sent forthwith!
