THE NENTHORNE BOOM.

Pome weeks ago we chronicled the f ict that several re fs bad been discovered m Central Otago m the Nenthorne district, and we bave from time to time referred to the sensational results of even small test crusbings. But we are of opinion tbat the peop'e. of this district have not yet rsali-ed the importance of tbe discovery to the future advancement of the distriot whioh, with the development of these reef*», must soon make a rapid progress forward, for it is now within the domain of established fact that tbe Nentborne reefs are the richest ever found In Central Otago ; and that Nenthorne is the centre of a remarkably rich reefing country, the extent of which has not yet been fully ascertained. We have from time to time seen soma of the tests made, aud the reßults obtained from small pieces ot atone, m wh'cb. to (he naked eye no gold was vieible, were quite phenomenal, and convince ua that the gold, wblcb Is rough and like miniature nuggets, Ib evenly distributed throogh the quar'z. One party of miners have resolved on working tbelr claim themselves Instead of putting It Into a company, and as«nre us that any one with a pestle and mortar oould with little effort make £1 a day. The quartz Is highly crystallsed, of a white and roseate hue, and orushes as easily as loaf sugar. Several tons have been sent to Danedin and several to Melbourne to be crushed, about the results of which the owners are very sanguine. Claims are being marked. out every day, and B^rne mite, of cenntry have been pegged out. Prospecting the various proper ties Is being prooeeded with, and we hear that the reef has been found, hearing good gold, ln. the Just-ln-Time olalm, situate east of the Eastern Nenthorne Company's claim. Further developments, will we feel confident, prove this field to be one of tbe best m Otago,— (" Mount Ida Chronicle."
