The German Press assert that the Congress book recently received at ' Washington admits that the American * interests m Samoa do not justify any } dispute between the United States and the Powers m regaid to that country. Washington, January l& Mr Sevell, the American Consul at Samoa, who has been examined at a secret sitting of the Foreign Relations Committee of the House of Representatives, stated that if it was not intended to yield to Germany the control of the , group, the Great Powers must take immediate and decided action. He ■ considered that the present division of i the native inhabitants was entirely due to German oppression, and further that ' it was important that the neutrality of ' the group should be secured.
